Meet Patches, an approximately 1 yr old tri-color Australian Shepherd/Border Collie with possibly some Spaniel mix. Patches will need a new family who is VERY familiar with herding breeds. He is NOT a good fit for a first time dog owning family. Patches has had 6 families (3 in Indiana & 3 in Illinois) all of whom have returned him, in his short life.

Typical of the herding breeds, Patches likes to be in charge and tried to boss around Ajax, one of his new foster siblings. After initial scuffling, the household is at detente. Patches totally accepted his more submissive foster sister, Lady.
While he initially pulled very hard on his leash, switching to a harness has helped greatly. Patches loves car rides and immediately starts to dance when the leash is brought out. He is very interested in the people that man the drive-thru window and watches intently when his foster mother fills up the car with gas & goes inside to pay. Patches enjoys the outdoors and patrols the fenced yard. His last family advised that he caught a bird, which sadly did not survive. Patches may not be a good match for a family with cats or other small pets.

Patches attended his 1st event over the weekend and did well meeting all ages of children. As a herding dog, he will NOT be a good match for a family with very young children. He will take charge herding & nipping when they dart around running & playing.
Patches plays rough, is mouthy & still jumps up in excitement. His current foster family is working to correct this behavior. Patches is house-trained. A typical Aussie mix, he is very Velcro & is practically glued to his foster mom's heels. He destroys fluffy, squeaky toys, finds random plastic & cardboard to chew but loves to have his ears & belly rubbed. Patches is very loving but needs a lot of physical & mental exercise to keep him out of trouble. He is very food focused & knows SIT & DOWN but isn't certain about PAW. A home with a tolerant play companion would help to give Patches a job and someone to play with.

Patches has been neutered & is up-to-date on vaccinations. If you would like to meet him, please call Margrit at 630.820.1584. The adoption fee is $225.
