Let me introduce you to my best friend, BEAU. Did you know BEAU is the masculine version of beauty in French? I don't know if BEAU would appreciate being called beautiful, but one this is for sure, he is a handsome boy! BEAU didn't have a very pretty life prior to Rover Rescue. He was found as a stray dog, wandering the streets of Southern Indiana. He wasn't in the greatest shape, either. He was extremely skinny, was missing patches of fur and tested positive for heartworms. The animal shelter he was taken to got him on the road to recovery. The heartworm treatment was a success. He recently had a heartworm test and his results were negative. Yeah! He just now needs to be on heartworm preventative year round. He has gained a much needed 10 pounds and his fur has filled in nicely. He is now a very happy boy. BEAU is gussimated to be around 7 years old. I think he may be a tad younger. He is quite agile and long walks do not faze him. He is believed to be an American Staffordshire Terrier and American Bulldog mix. He now weighs a healthy 70 pounds of pure muscle. BEAU knows no strangers. He is very friendly and will let anyone pet him, especially if they give good butt scratches. He also loves to snuggle and doesn't always understand personal space. He is house trained. He will whine and bark to let you know when he needs to go outside or if it is dinnertime. He is crate trained, but since he has such good manners, he is not kenneled in his foster home. He has never been destructive and doesn't check out the kitchen counters for goodies. He does think he needs a treat if he sees his foster family eating a snack. Not only is he a good looking guy, he is smart also. He knows to sit, shake both paws, and to lie down. He is working on the leave it command. He definitely wants to please his people. He has a very playful side. He loves to carry his blanket or stuffy toys with him. He has been known to fall asleep with such toys. BEAU is currently living with the resident house dog and has been fine. However, he has proven to be selective with his dog friends. It may be best if he is the only dog in the home. He is a great passenger and loves car rides. He is learning not to pull on his walks and listens quite well.
