Meet Gary! He is a 1 year old pup. Our best guess at breed is cattle dog with Rottweiler and maybe some border collie or Australian shepherd (his brother who has already been adopted looked more border collie/Aussie). He is a 45 pound bundle of energy.
Gary is a little timid in new situations. He was very nervous his first night in his new foster home. He has since started coming out of his shell and his personality is really starting to show. Because Gary can be nervous I would recommend an adult only home or one with older kids.
Gary is slowly working on manners. He gets very excited about getting love and will jump up on people. He has also been known to counter surf. We are learning about keeping all 4 feet on the ground.
Gary is very high energy and can get anxious because of this. He will definitely need an active household. Daily walks do help. He walks pretty nicely on leash overall (he occasionally gets excited and pulls). We are starting backpack training with him to give him a job. He also loves rough housing with other dogs. The shelter said he has been known to get growly with other dogs, but we have not had any issues in the foster home. He will just need proper introductions. We do not know how he will do with cats, but he did try to chase a squirrel on a walk.
Gary has been perfect in the house with no accidents. We make sure to let him out frequently when home.
Gary is crated while we are at work and at night. He will go into his crate for a treat. He loves his deer antler and treat toy he gets while crated. At night he does sometimes get whiney when first put into the crate but does settle down.
Gary will make a great dog, he just needs some training and confidence building. He is very food motivated so that should help with training. He is a very sweet boy. He is a Velcro dog and wants to be near you. He does tend to like to be in your face. He also cannot control his tongue and loves giving kisses. All he wants is to be loved!
