Meet Dallas the shy little male blue heeler who is about 1-2 years old and no more than 35 pounds. He was turned into the Indiana kill shelter by a man stating he found him on the road, but the shelter workers had a suspicion that the man was actually his owner. The dog was just way to comfortable around him. Poor little Dallas is so sad and confused being shuffled around. But he is safe now living in my home until he can find his forever home. You must be very careful around him as he fears everything. And I mean everything - he jumped ten feet when my toast popped from the toaster. He is very comfortable around other dogs and perks up when they are around. He is very loving and will come up to you and lay his head against you while you pet him. I haven’t seen any signs of aggression or fear aggression he will lay down or back up when scared. With that being said I think a quiet home with older children would be best. Maybe in time he will come out of his shell and know that nothing bad will happen to him but that’s a slow road that must be taken. I’ve only had him for two days and he is comfortable around me but even I must move slowly so not to frighten him. He’s still being evaluated if completely housebroken. He hasn’t made any accidents in my house and he tried to mark a couple times, but he’s neutered now so that should go away. He doesn’t seem to know any commands so I will work with him on that. Walks extremely well on a leash because he wants to be as close to you as he can to feel secure. I will update his bio a little later once he’s been in the house for a bit and I can see more of his personality. What I’ve seen so far, I really like. He will make someone a very good companion. Keep in mind with all heelers they are working dogs so they need to be exercised not only physically but mental as well. If you have never owned a heeler or any herding breed, please do your research before adopting. They are wonderful, smart, loyal and loving dogs.
