Meet Gertie, she is a beautiful basset hound/shepherd mix with lots of love and loyalty. Gertie comes to us from a high kill shelter in Indiana, where she was owner surrendered because her owners did not want her anymore. Gertie was adopted out from Rover Rescue but once again returned. Gertie is in a foster home with 3 other dogs and does remarkable. By herself, Gertie is very anxious. Her history is unknown and why she is anxious is also unknown. What we do know is that Gertie thrives when her people are home with her all the time and/or with other dogs. Gertie cannot be crated because she will harm herself. Gertie loves to go on short walks every day and is super excited to be with her people. Gertie is a mature dog around 7-8 years old and can be a little stubborn about peppy dogs in her space. She reminds me of a mom who is trying to take a nap and her toddler children keep bugging her. Gertie does need a potty schedule to keep her on track of going outside as she does have some accidents, but she is mostly housetrained. Other than that, Gertie is very low maintenance and low energy and would do well with a family that has a couch to offer her a safe space and just wants a companion. You only see sweetness and kindness in her face when she smiles at you. Gertie deserves nothing less than a family that will treasure and appreciate the love and kindness she has to offer. Gertie is up to date on all her vaccinations and is spayed. Please only consider Gertie if you are willing to take her as she is. If you feel that you are the right fit for Gertie and would like to meet her in person, please contact Denise at 630-439-6541. The adoption fee is $225.
