Shelby is a 2 year old catahoula/mastiff mix. Shelby has become very comfortable in her new foster home. She plays with both Ajax, her foster brother & Lady, her foster sister and especially loves to play chase & run in the yard after her foster mother comes home from work. She likes ropes and balls and now squeek toys. Shelby no longer counter surfs but is still tall enough to counter sniff. She will sit like an Egyptian cat statue in the kitchen, waiting for a treat while her foster mother is cooking. The only giveaway that Shelby really, REALLY wants food, is a tiny little thread of drool slowly getting longer off her righthand jowl. Her new family will still need to be careful about putting away food because Shelby very sneakily stole a boston creme and French donut from the box when she was in the car with it.

Shelby loves car rides. She likes playing with other dogs but is picky about which adult dogs she likes. Shelby adores puppies but has not been cat tested. She is very intense when she sees a squirrel, so may have a high prey drive. Her previous foster family said that she occasionally snuck out and stole the neighbor's small dog and brought it back home.

Shelby is house trained, likes pillows & blankets, snuggling & belly rubs and thinks she's a lap dog. She does herd and can be told to fetch her dog foster brother and grab one of his rear legs to try and drag him into the house. While she does like children, the herding instincts of her Catahoula Leopard side would not be a good match for a household with young children. Her new family will need to be able to give her the same physical and mental stimulation that Australian shepherds and border collies need. Please research the Louisiana Catahoula Leopard dog traits to see if Shelby would be a good fit for your family.

Shelby is up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped & spayed. If you would like to meet Shelby, please contact Margrit at 630.820.1584. Her adoption fee is $200.
